A payout cap is a ceiling on how much a funded account can pay per request or cycle. It is the least-advertised term in the payout stack and often the one that decides real earnings: a 90% split behind a $2,000 cap pays less than an 80% split with none.
Worked examples (checked 28 October 2026): Topstep's Express Funded Account caps requests at $2,000/$3,000/$5,000 (50K/100K/150K), doubled to $4,000-$10,000 if you added a daily loss limit at checkout. FTMO Futures caps at $2,500-$4,000 on Growth and $5,000-$8,000 on Pro, per request. Caps typically apply only to the first funded stage - Topstep's Live Funded Account pays uncapped - which is the firms' stated incentive structure: perform, graduate, then the ceiling lifts.
How to evaluate: multiply the cap by the cycle length. A $5,000 cap on a 14-day cycle is ~$10,700 a month at best; the same cap weekly is four times that. Caps and minimums side by side: payout minimums explained; the futures ceiling terms: no payout cap.
