The profit split is the percentage of trading profits the trader keeps on a funded account - typically 70-90%, with the firm keeping the rest. It is the headline number of every prop firm offer, and also the most often misread one.
Two models exist. Fixed splits (FTMO: 90% on the 1-Step, 80% rising to 90% on the 2-Step) treat the share as a property of the account. Checkout-chosen splits (FundedNext's Stellar 2-Step: 80% on the 21-day cycle, 60% on the 3-profitable-day cycle, 90% on demand) sell speed in exchange for share - you pick at checkout and cannot change it (help.fundednext.com, checked 28 October 2026).
How to read a split: always pair it with the payout cycle and caps. "95%" behind a monthly cycle and a $1,000 cap pays less than "80%" paid every 5 days uncapped. Add-ons such as FundedNext's Lifetime 95% override the cycle splits permanently - for a price at checkout.
Splits across the market: profit splits compared; the too-good version: 100% profit split.
