A data fee is the exchange market-data subscription that some futures prop firms pass through to traders. CME data is licensed, not free: professional-style access carries monthly exchange fees that the firm either absorbs into the evaluation price or re-bills to the trader.

What to check: whether the evaluation price is all-in, what the funded stage charges for live data (Topstep and others historically charge for full CME bundles at funded stages while evaluations include simplified data), and whether non-professional pricing applies to you - individual retail traders usually qualify for reduced exchange rates, which is why the same bundle can cost a few dollars or over a hundred depending on status.

Why it matters: a "cheap" $49 Combine plus $130 of data is dearer than the $119 all-in competitor, and funded-stage data bills arrive exactly when you thought the costs were over. The cost stacking in full: prop firm data fees; the fee-model comparison: futures prop firm comparison.

Contract specifications for the products these firms evaluate are published by CME Group.
